About Caryn

I grew up riding my horse through the Australian bush. There were shiny gum trees that would tower over me & I would raise my arm & turn my face to make way through the spiky tea tree while my horse would canter along the unbeaten tracks. There would be the odd wildflower on the floor, changing with the seasons. Completely alone with my huge equine friend & the sounds of fallen branches under hoof, I would grab gum leaves & scrunch them up in my hand, releasing the oily aroma & peel bark from the tea trees, observing the layers of colour. My gaze was constantly moving & was sometimes held by an enormous tree of interest.

My first experience in a florist studio was at a train station in a country town. I was sixteen at the time & wanted to give someone a flower with a note written in black marker. It was empowering adding flowers; the message alone was not enough. The smell of transience in both trains & blooms whilst immersed in a cocoon of affected nature was a sensory experience & immediately a safe place. You may notice that I use black marker to this day.

I detoured through the texture & flavours of hospitality & the beauty of design through modelling & found myself returning to the fragrance & impermanence of nature in flowers. I studied floristry at Pearsons School of Floristry in Darlinghurst, Sydney & opened my first retail space in 2018. I now design from my studio on my property in the Hunter region in the company of my Great Dane.  He is my ‘horse’ in indoor form.

I work closely with my clients & my warmth & edgy complexity is reflected in my work. I am intentional with my choice of materials & create with the conviction that beauty is unique.
